I appreciate your willingness to sit down and read a little background about me. First off my name is Casey Rae or KC. I am a few months away from being thirty, and I have had quite a life so far! I am an artist and a college graduate, and I want to draw a mental image of my previous endeavors.
Well for starters, I didn’t want to live in an apartment or a manufactured home. I wanted to build a cob home in the middle of nowhere. Specifically outside of Alamosa, Colorado. This idea came to me probably in 2016 or so, in my early 20s. I read books and watched videos on how to create an earthen home, I designed it often and had so many ideas of hydroponics, water catching, composting toilets; you know deep into the idea. I even found a window at a salvage yard and insisted on keeping it for the cob home. We ended up flying from Idaho to Denver Colorado to check out the land I was eyeballing. It was five acres of sand and sage on a unpaved road thirty minutes from a small town. It had nice views, but I knew it would be a lot of work that I couldn’t even fathom. I had high hopes to get this house started by the time I was twenty-five.
Before this grand aspiration, starting in 2008, I wanted to be a snowboard designer. This too was purely out of my lack of interest in available designs. I don’t even think I considered myself an artist back then. I was just slapping logos into an editor with a car shop graphics designer in Kellogg Idaho. This was a deal I had made with the owner/manager of said car shop. I would ride the board around the mountain that had his face all over it, and then I could keep the board, and he keep mine for his daughter, and I could design over the board that had his face on it. Oh and what an embarrassing day it was to ride around the mountain. Many people knew him and sadly not as highly as I would hope. I was pushing snow onto the board while in the chairlift line.
I never did become an actual snowboard graphics designer, but I did design my board, and then painted it years later. I also never built my own cob home, but I did buy a stucco home and I am content.
In the next blog post, I will share more about my recent business ventures, current projects, and all the exciting things I’ve been up to lately.
